yes, after years of development and months of finalizing, the first Showbread DVD release "How Showbread Ruined My Life" is finally almost here...
The final version is being completed as i type this, the artwork is ready to go... Everything goes out to the manufacturer in a couple of days.
believe me when i say, it is a colossus of content. If content where a comic book character, this DVD would be Galactus and its content would be all the worlds he has eaten. almost 8 eight hours of content.... content, content, content.
tour documentaries, studio documentaries, music videos, commentaries, live footage, home movies, interviews... it's a lot. ranging from 2002 all the way to 2008.
...and the only place you can get the DVD? yes, online or at a show, it WILL NOT BE SOLD IN STORES.
soon we are going to present an online store here on the showbread myspace and at showbread.net where you can pre-order the DVD as well as buy shirts, posters and other showbread crap you can only get online. we'll have some special offers to announce with pre-orders and other fun stuff as well...
stay posted so you don't miss it, more to come in the next few days.
On a less exciting note, we found out last night that our insurance will not cover any of the items stolen from our van...
We lost all our In The Boat equipemnt (some $3,000 worth...) a canon and nikon camera, 4 ipods, 8 grand or so in cash, a sony handycam, our wallets, purses, etc. etc.
bummer...
but on the bright side, all these things are fleeting and you can't take them with you. no use crying over spilled milk.
This morning we woke up to find that our van and trailer had been stolen from outside the house we were sleeping at in Rancho Cordova, California.
Through the help of the Rancho Cordova Police Department and Councilman Ken Cooley, our van and trailer were discovered a few hours later on the side of the road just a mile away. The thief even used a couple of our debit cards at a local chevron station where many cameras were around, and left a healthy amount of fingerprints in the grime of our dirty van. CSI is on the case... really.
Thankfully, whoever robbed us couldn't get into our trailer, so the Showbread equipment is all still with us. Unfortunately, they did manage to gut our van pretty thoroughly. Among the things stolen were some five thousand dollars in photography/videography equipment, 4 ipods, 3 cell phones, 4 wallets, social security cards, and thousands of dollars in cash, etc. etc... Just fleeting things of the material world that don't really matter at all.
They even stole our coats, ricky's food, and Patrick's bible! But they left a nintendo DS, what an insult.
We're working to get our back window repaired and we'll hopefully be rejoining the tour with Maylene tomorrow in Hollywood, California.
There was a HUGE flood of support from all our friends. People offered prayers and encouraging words and all kinds of things and it honestly means the world to us. So if you prayed, wrote, called or emailed, thank you so much for being a friend.
We have insurance, and we're hoping that the "good hands" we're in with Allstate will come through for us.
Several people asked about supporting us with donations. Currently we have no cash and no cards and a big dent in our account with several weeks left of tour to go... Our version of "in need" at this point pales in comparison to those who really are in need, so we'd hate to suggest that we're worse off than we really are, so don't think that. We're actually just fine, our spirits are high, we are thankful and all things considered the situation ended amazingly well. We do have a small hole in our wallet, so for those that asked and feel led to help, you can use the button below. Don't feel obligated in any way, but if you do feel so led, know that it humbles us greatly and means more than we can say.
Know this though, if for some reason insurance covers the stolen cash, your donations will be redirected to Compassion International, to those REALLY in need...
This morning we woke up to find our van and trailer had been stolen from in front of our friend’s house in Rancho Cordova, California.
Everything we have in the world is in that van and trailer. Every piece of equipment, every piece of luggage, all our money…. Everything.
If you are anywhere in California or near the Rancho Cordova/Sacramento area please be on the look-out for a 15-passenger Ford van with Georgia plates and a black double axel trailer with missing fenders and stripes of reflective tape across the black door, please call the police and report it.
We are thousands of miles from home, in the middle of tour and everything we have is gone with no way to get home.
Please pray for us, we know that Christ will provide for us and it is well with our souls. Praise Jesus for times of trials! Our faith is hard as rock.
In January of 2009, Josh Dies (front-man/songwriter for Showbread and author of The Spinal Cord Perception will be embarking on his first national book reading/acoustic tour. The tour will celebrate the release of Dies' new children's book The Insect as well as the first printing of The Spinal Cord Perception in over a year, his upcoming sophomore novel Nevada coming later in 2009, and a brand new EP from his solo act DIES called Talons. All of these releases will be exclusive to this tour until later in 2009.
At the shows, Josh will read from his written work (including pieces exclusive to the tour), engage in an open conversation and Q&A with the audience as well an acoustic set made up mostly of requests from the Showbread and DIES catalogue. The way it works is simple, there will be a special mail box set up where you'll write in, say what show you're coming to and what song you want to hear and the set list will be made from the requests.
There will also be all kinds of interactive fun, weirdness and surprises along the way; every night will be its own unique experience.
To bring this tour to your area, contact: Travis Waugh- traviswaugh@gmail.com
There will be many more updates in the coming weeks and months… Thanks.
For the next two weeks only, you can buy the debut solo album "Aesthetics Of Violence" from Showbread frontman Josh Dies, for $10 by visiting the DIES Myspace page
and clicking the "Buy Now" button.
After that, it's back to only being available at Showbread shows.
DIES is currently recording a new EP that will be released later this year...
Also... Finally, after a 5 year wait, the third Brave Saint Saturn album "Anti-Meridian", is coming out this monday, september 15th, 2008.
Brave Saint Saturn (BS2) is a band featuring Reese Roper, who sings on the Showbread song's "Matthias Replaces Judas" and "Stabbing Art To Death" and who co-wrote and sang the song "The Beginning" on the album "Nervosa".
If you haven't heard the BS2 album "The Light Of Things Hoped For" you're missing out, it is a Showbread all-time favorite.
I've been talking to Reese and he said that the new album is the best one yet, so we are PUMPED.
over at the official Showbread web blog, we're doing our best to bring you daily updates from the road, or at least as frequently as we can get to a wifi connection... visit the blog to witness fist hand the highs and lows of the incredible journey.
You can click the orange square in your navigation bar to subscribe to an RSS feed and get easy access to all the updates... (here's more info on RSS feeds for the less nerdy)
i've been having people ask me about my "facebook" account lately, which is weird because i don't have one.
apparently some bored person is pretending to be me. methinks he or she could pretend to be someone much cooler.
anyway, i'm not even entirely sure what facebook is. but i've never been there and that ain't me.
if you use that site, find the phony and let him know we are all aware of his phoniness.
in other news, we're nearing completion on the long gestating "How Showbread Ruined My Life" DVD... this thing is beefy, with hours of footage from home, the road, the studio and more. it's got the music videos, pointless homemade movies, live footage and a documentary of the YOU CAN'T SAVE YOURSELF TOUR. two discs literally PACKED with footage.
everytime i say "the plan is..." something goes awry, but at the risk of bad mojo, the plan is to have the DVD out this fall to be sold on the road on online only. we'll have some clips online soon with a solid release date.
one more thing while i'm at it, we're hitting the road again next week for another month across the country with another set, more shinanigans, more destruction, more insanity and a kenny loggins cover. check out the tour dates here on the myspace page and come join us for the mayhem.
check out the new video for "The Pig" from our new record "Anorexia", directed by The Porter Brothers for In The Boat Productions (myspace.com/intheboatproductions)
Yesterday was something else. I was asleep in the van during the drive to Oklahoma City, when Mike woke me up to point out landmarks he recognized from “The Fearless Freaks”, a documentary about one of my favorite bands: The Flaming Lips.
We saw the Vietnamese restaurant that was once the Long John Silver’s singer Wayne Coyne worked in for years. We saw the park and fountain from the “Waiting For a Superman” video.
Curious, Mike and I cued up a copy of “Fearless Freaks”, noticed the clearly visible road signs in front of Wayne Coyne’s home, and punched it into the GPS. Oddly enough, Wayne’s home was walking distance from the venue we were playing that night.
After much deliberation and a stalker-ish stroll by (we noticed Wayne’s wife accepting a UPS box from Urban Outfitters) we decided to write Wayne a note explaining our appreciation for The Flaming Lips’ music and the inspiration they’ve offered Showbread over the years, bundle it together with some copies of our records, and leave it on his doorstep. Creepy? Maybe, but we figured this was the most polite distinction between stalking and fan-boy admiration.
Oddly enough, at the exact moment Ricky and Landon approached Wayne’s doorstep with the bundle as we watched from the van, Wayne himself pulled into the driveway. We all stepped out to meet him. He was very gracious and kind, gladly excepted our cd’s and invited us to a screening of the long anticipated Flaming Lips movie “Christmas On Mars”… It was awesome.
The show ran late and it rained a lot, but we made it to the screening. It was held in a tent behind what used to be an old rock climbing building. We missed the first half of the movie, but we were happy to experience it at all.
Life is weird and great.
on another note, a few days ago we got to spend some time with our pal Reese Roper, who is actually coming close to finishing the third Brave Saint Saturn album... We got to listen to some of it and I'm very excited. If you haven't heard Brave Saint's second record "The Light Of Things Hoped For" you are missing out, it is one of my all-time favorites. Go to bravesaintsaturn.com to read more about it. Mike, Patrick and myself are also working on another music project with Reese which we are excited about... anyway. more to come.
-Josh Dies
p.s. go see The Incredible Hulk. It's not as amazing as Iron Man, but it's still raw.
tour is going wonderfully. we have had very interesting ups and downs and are very happy to be on the road again.
today we had a day off. ourselves and the ember days went to see "the strangers", we ate at chipotle then played kick-ball in the park.
more to come.
if you're a horror fan, PLEASE go see "the strangers"... it is terrifying and will remind you of the good ol' days of horror. ignore the people who complain about it.
It has wallpapers, buddy icons and extra info after the second load.
On another note, the YOU CAN'T SAVE YOURSELF tour begins friday in jacksonville florida. The first show will be streamed live on the web via Synclive.com... Look for a post that day directing you to where you can see it...
Our new double album opus: "Anorexia" and "Nervosa" are now in stores. These are not just albums, they are experiences that take place in your mind, ears and heart.
Each record comes with a special storybook to be read along with the music. These albums tell the tragic/beautiful stories of two sisters...
Best Buy is offering a "2 for $20" deal to make it easier to buy both albums at once. DO NOT buy from itunes or similar digital retailers, they will not come with the story books.
Go out, buy both albums, take this journey with Anorexia and her sister Nervosa.
This is by far the greatest work Showbread has completed.
This Tuesday, May 13th, 2008... Showbread will be releasing two new albums: "Anorexia" and "Nervosa".
This project began as an idea in the fall of 2006. It developed into a story in January of 2007. Songs were written based on that story a few months later, and finally in the fall of 2007, the project was recorded.
These records are unlike any records that I know of... They are literally a song by song sountdrack to a written story that comes packaged with each album. As the story develops, so does the music, as the tone darkens, so does the music, as each character lives and reacts, the music represents that, song by song, chapter by chapter, minute by minute and even second by second.
Musically, we've gone somewhere we haven't been before. These albums are more epic, vast in scale, aggressive and harsh than what we've done before. They are more built up, layered and multi dimensional. They are rough, hard to listen to, beautiful, ominous, blistering, ugly and meaningful.
The stories of these two sisters are very dear to are hearts. Their story is one we can deeply relate to and nothing this band has done before is more important, special or wonderful than these two albums.
From the bottom of our hearts, we encourage anyone and everyone interested to go out and purchase these albums on tuesday. Sit down alone in a nice quiet room. Open the story books, press play, and go on a journey with Anorexia and her sister Nervosa. Please tell everyone you know...
Best Buy is offering both records for under $10 as a part of a "2 for $20" deal so Best Buy is most likely the cheapest place to purchase "Anorexia Nervosa". We must STRONGLY discourage anyone from purchasing from itunes and other mp3 retailers. Digital copies of the record, although cheap, are poor audio quality and WILL NOT come with the story which is 50% of the album experience.
As always, we also discourage downloading leaked, stolen versions of the record(s).
It is not a matter of money in our packets, but rather a matter of us being able to continue to make music. More stolen records=less cd sales=less concern from record labels=less artistic freedom=trouble for bands you enjoy.
I know that this project, these records, this story were all made for a special purpose. Please enjoy.
We will see you on the road this summer as we bring this story to life on stage.
2 days left until the release of Showbread's new album(s)...
Read more about it in the interview below with josh Dies featured in this moths issue of HM magazine.
